And I believe that 100%. When I first got into real estate, it became very clear to me that if I wanted to stay in real estate, I needed to figure out what the hell was going on and fast. So I threw myself into the deep end with a good friend who let me list this old, dilapidated property she and her sister inherited. They really wanted to be rid of it as it held some memories that were best left alone. Knowing what they, and the house, had endured really captured me - houses do have stories and the walls talk (if you remember to listen.)

I learned more than I wanted to with that listing. I learned about mobile homes, title issues, bill of sales, how to handle weird looky-loos, what to say to my clients when there's nothing to say, and how to make the best out of what you have. And yes, it did finally sell. 4 price drops later, after sitting on the market for 4 months, a cash buyer's agent called me. He loved it, wanted to fix it up, and that was that. Everyone left the closing table happy!

That was almost three years ago. I've done over a million in sales volume since then, and man, have I learned some stuff about me! I've found out if you don't have nerve, you ain't got nothing - especially in this business. (Former language teachers, please forgive me for the triple negative.)  I've found out that trial and error is a repetitive process, and most of the time people stop after the first error. I've discovered what a hamster feels like when it's spinning on its wheel and getting absolutely nowhere. And I've found out that I love real estate. The community of people that I am around who each also have their own business, the multitude of brokerages coming together under the Boards, the limitless ideas and creativity and selfless willingness to help others has just been absolutely awe-inspiring and motivational to me.
